Research in AI with an Economic Perspective

Economics is fundamentally concerned with companies, markets, and nations. From a firm-level standpoint, research topics include how AI reshapes production, marketing, controlling, finance, and — not least — corporate business models. We also study how AI diffuses through specific sectors, such as the energy and water industries.

On the macroeconomic & policy level, the focus shifts to the effects on labour markets, economic policy, and societal issues.

Established on October 1, 2020, this research priority has grown into a vibrant network. It currently includes 15 professors in the HRW Business Institute (Wirtschaftsinstitut) who collaborate across disciplines to explore AI’s business, economic, and regulatory implications.
